tHANKS FOR UR SUPPORT!!
Finally we have come to the end of a great year filled with great musics and some outstanding singers. So I figured out since others can have Grammy’s, MTV music awards showing appreciation to good music, why don’t I create my own too? Well just based on my personal opinion, these are nominees and winners for my own music awards:
Best Pop Singer/Band:
Nominees: Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Rihanna
Winner: Its a year where pop overshadows over genre, with catchy tunes played everywhere,
I choose her just because she brings a new dimension to pop, and proved to the
world she is more than a pretty girl in Black Eye Peas, so congrats to FERGIE!
Best Rock Singer/Band:
Nominees: Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Daughtry, Maroon 5
Winner: Just for one reason, you don’t need to win a voting competition to prove you are the
best, DAUGHTRY is my pick.
Best Country Singer/Band:
Nominees: LeAnn Rimes, Sugarland, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Rascall Flatts
Winner: Really would love to pick Carrie but this 18 year old girl, virtually unknown in our country just came out and made my jaw drop, TAYLOR SWIFT deserve this one..
Best Newcomer:
Nominees: Sean Kingston, Paramore, Colbie Caillat, Ashley Tisdale, MIKA, Fergie, Kat DeLuna, Nicole Scherzinger, Taylor Swift, Daughtry
Winner: If there is one really shiny diamond among the bunch of gems discovered this year, its MIKA, who defies the odd of looks and stormy past to win the hearts of millions.
Best Male Singer:
Nominees: Akon, James Blunt, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, MIKA
Winner:Undoubtedly the brightest personality in 2007 music industry, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Best Female Singer:
Nominees: Amy Winehouse, Avril Lavigne, Fergie, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado
Winner: Tough choice but I am going with Nelly Furtado just because of the shocking turnover from the "i m like a bird" image, and she doesn’t do drugs like Amy does..
Best Album:
Nominees: Loose(Nelly Furtado), The Best Damn Thing (Avril Lavigne), The Dutchess(Fergie),
FutureSex/Love Sounds (Justin Timberlake), Life In Cartoon Motion (MIKA)
Winner: A must have for music lovers, its an album full of catchy songs, no songs put in just to fill up empty spaces, nicely produced, just that FutureSex/Love Sounds sounds a little odd to me

Dear mom, dad, teachers, my friends, relatives and everyone i know:
By the time you read this letter, I already left this world, arriving at a heaven with peace, happiness,a place full of laughter and free of all suffering. I have no regrets leaving this world, and after reading this letter, all of you will know why. I blame no one, and I mean no one for my sudden departure. If there is anything to blame, it would be myself, and most importantly, fate, my time has come.
I still remember after the exam, I saw everyone rushing out of the exam hall with joy, expecting a great holiday ahead. I try to muster a smile on my face, but what came out from my sweaty, pale face was pure sadness, disappointment, and an inner voice saying "you could have done better". I really envy my friends and wish I can be celebrating just like them. Instead of relief, my heart is filled with guilt, thousands of excuses popping in my mind, thinking of what to say when mom and dad asked how I fare in the exam. I can see a target in front of me, the bulls eye painted by mom and dad, straight A’s . I was given an arrow, I had my shot, and whether I have hit the target, it remains unknown.
And walked up the car, looking at your anxious faces, questions firing at me like bullets in a warfield, I could only nod and use all the strength of my body to hold my head up, when my heart already sank deep in the ocean of disappointment. Scoring good results was no longer an achievement, at least not for my parents and teachers, its an obligation and expectation, its a must. Maybe its the price to pay for being best students for all these years, for being borned in a strict family. But mom and dad, I want you to know that I don’t blame any of you, I know its all for my own good, but trust me, I gave everything I had to prepare for the exam, but yet when I enter the exam hall, my mind went blank, I couldn’t think of a word to write on the answer sheet, its like being hit by a lighting, shell-shocked. The burden on my back, the tons of pressures I carried throughout the years, finally crumble on me. I suddenly feel so weak, so vulnerable….
Since I was brought to this world, nothing other than the best will do. Instead of kites and marbles, my life is all about pianos, ballets and tuitions. I was told this world is colourful, but what I can see was black and white. I always have daydream how other kid’s life is, but was brought back to reality by nagging of mom. The days waiting for results collection feel like years. I have trouble eating, sleep full of nightmares, but all these anxiety are invisible to mom and dad as you are too busy planning how to celebrate my success, coaching me on what to talk to reporters when I score straight A’s. Countless times I try to convince you not to expect so much, all in vain. So the much dreaded D day got closer and closer, and my night before the collection day was filled by tears and fears.
As I trembled my way for the result slip, and took all the guts to take a glimpse at it, I knew my worst nightmare just came true. 4B’s and 3C’s, I held the result slip, and began the run of my life, without having a clue where I was heading towards. What flashed in my mind was the scolding of my parents, the embarassment they need to face while comparing results with other parents. I am always the "Golden Child" among all relatives, a subject of praise, how would I be able to explain to them? And my friends, everyone will look down on me now, no one will ever play or talk to me anymore, I won’t have any more friends, I am just a useless piece of sh** now.
I ran and ran, and finally I stopped, only to realize I am now standing at the 4th floor of the school building. With all the miseries awaiting me, my future is a total black tunnel. Looking down hopelessly, with thoughts that there is no more meaning for me continue my stay in this world, suddenly I saw a ray of light down, the heaven I long for calling me. Suddenly all fears disappear, all I will take is a jump and all the pain will be gone. But before I leave, goodbye to everyone and goodbye to this world……PEACE
– A letter found behind the exam slip of a UPSR student who committed suicide–
It hits me hard when I read about the news of a standard six student commit suicide after receiving a result which is so-called not up to expectations. Thats what makes me think, makes me go back to my childhood moments and picture what its like to have to go through all she had to go through, and came up with this letter. I hope this letter will give a wake up call to everyone, our society is sick, academical achievements, material achievements are everything that matters, but let me ask you a question, is it worth to sacrifice such an innocent kid for those?
It’s been really a long time since I last written a blog, its not surprising since life in IMU has been really busy that I barely had a chance to breath. But no matter how busy I am, I have a very good reason to write this blog, its a story about someone very important in my life, someone that I never had a chance to talk to ever again… The story begin like this:
Once upon a time, during world war two where citizens had to endure poverty, war, cruelty and different government policies from British and Japan, a very determined young guy had a great ambition to change his own fortune, he believe that his fate is in his hand and nothing can stop him from being successful. So he worked hard, even though he doesn’t get much pay, even though he is not educated, he didn’t give up. He is very creative as well, inventing different kind of artwork and develop great skills in it. At last his hardwork pays off, he earned enough money to open his own shop, which he make houses, cars, lanterns and lots of craft to be burned for the dead people, which is part of the chinese tradition. His business grew significantly from time to time and became one of the most famous shop in Penang making these stuff. His works are widely published in newspapers and even in TV programmes.
Now this guy had grown old, fight through lots of diseases, and finally, his body gave up and he had gone away peacefully to a better place. However during the time when he is ill, he remains positive about life, and for an 80 something year old man, he still look extremely healthy. Now you might wonder, why am I telling a story of another guy, there is only one reason, he is my grandpa and someone I love and respect the most in my life.
He is someone highly respected in my family, no matter where he goes. He is someone I look up to whenever I had problems. He took me travelling around the world since I was 3, thats why now I can proudly tell anyone that I had seen some of the most beautiful places in the world, eaten the best foods, witness the best cultures. During chinese new year he is the one who always gave me ang pow thats contain the most money. So when my mom phoned me today to tell me the news, I was stunned for a while, I was lost in words. I remember before I came back to IMU for semester two, he was ill but the situation is not critical, I went to clinics and hospitals together with him but doctors haven’t found any fatal diseases. But life is so cruel, anything can just happen, its no use regretting not spending more time with him now, but to treasure whats in front of you, maybe thats more important, I am sure he will feel the same way as I do…
I am sure he does feel the same way, wherever he is now. Its because we are really very much alike. I am very stubborn since small, stood by whatever I feel its right and never back out, I feel I get this gene from him. We doesn’t talk too much as well, people might take us as stern people, but I feel sometimes look can be deceiving, sometimes when I sit with him, even though we doesn’t talk much to each other, I can feel the warmth and I can feel us communicating in another way, its just another weird thing about us. We do go out every weekend, and when people are holding hands with their girlfriends, I am proud and contented to just hold his hand and walk along the mall. Its a shame that we couldn’t spend more time together, but I look forward to every weekend, whenever I am in Penang. He does offer to buy me everything I wished to buy, insist of treating our every dinner together, but there is always a little arguement between us coz I just will never let him pay!! We are just such stubborn people….
There is lots of things that I almost gave up doing, for example teaching in primary school, I almost quit after few days due to great pressure but few words from him inspire me to hold on and finish the job. Now that he has passed away, his spirit remains with me and I will go on living with it. Whenever he is looking at me from anywhere, I want him to be proud of me, I wanted to go on living and be strong in every aspect just like him. Its just too bad that I am not a pharmacist yet, and I couldn’t do anything to save his life, but I promise I will do whatever I can to save any other person’s life and he will forever be my inspiration.
So Grandpa, hope you rest in peace and always remember that I love you.
(note: I just scribbled this blog when my emotion is not really right, I might talk lots of crap or make lots of spelling mistakes in it, but I just say what I think, and I must say it because I want everyone to know that I have a great grandpa)
Life seems like a courthouse,
people are judging everyone around,
Have human turned into a crime suspects?
and there is an unwritten law for life,
with endless trials going on every second,
up till your life end….
She said, " I am fat, ugly and no guys want to talk to me…"
There are so-called NORMAL people,
and this is what everyone expect you to be,
if you belong to this band,
people accept you with an open hand,
but if you are different,
you go straight to jail….
with no bail,
no escape,
didn’t anyone tell you that everyone else are fake?
And he said" I am stupid and I keep failing my exam, and everyone thinks I am lazy but I am not, what do I do?"
This a world that looks count the most,
well almost…
and people are praying for an imaginary world,
where people see heart before looks,
where angels has wings,
and where devils can never hide their evil grins..
She said" I am sick of this life, why does everybody seems to hate me when I just try to be friendly and funny?"
Its not our fault,
we are borned so….
we are not weird,
we are just being ourselves,
but then again, we are begging to be treated like normal ,
coz we see ourselves as special,
does these sounds familiar to you?
And again they said, " We are a gay coz we cant help it, are we wrong??"
And the list goes on
" I am black"
" I lost a leg"
" I can’t see a thing, I am borned blind"
Hmm…Didn’t anyone tell you that you see better without your eyes??
Be religious or think rationally? This has been something that has been seriously bugging our country and the entire world, and there is a huge difference between the two big words begin with R.
Religion is something I would say as a link of our soul to God, it provides guidance, keeping us with faith and steer us pass tough times, no one knew how our God looks like, and I am in no position to argue that, but for sure every existing religion is meant for something good for mankind. But there is something I have to say, religion does not equal to rules, definitely not as dead as what the Holy Books had written, and definitely not equals to human’s interpretation of God’s intention, it is something alive and breathing in every single part of our life.
So does that mean we have to follow everything our religion saying, follow blindly without thinking? Without using the most precious gift from God, our brain? The blind following and misinterpretation has cost us dearly, not just us, but million of lives in this world. Every country has their own interpretation of Islam for example, which one is true then? Is it the Turks , Iranian, Palestinian, Afghans, Malaysian ourselves, or even the Al-Qaeda group? Who is in the position to say which is right and which is wrong then?
"Terrorist" are named so not because they kill people, not because they destroy buildings, but because their aim is to cause terror. The worst thing of all, they used God as their name, they do it for God, and is adamant that they are sacrificing for God in holy intentions. Rationality lacks at this point, they follow blindly on what they believe to be true, its like they do not have their mind with themselves anymore, and eventually became the slave of the so-called "True Religious Believe". Suicide bombing had became the best way of declaring their loyalty towards God, but I believe that this is the moment that God is weeping, whoever He is.
I believe God promote peace and not killings, promote honesty and not selfishness, promote growth and not destruction, most importantly God promotes freedom of thinking as long as it is in a positive way and the courage to make changes. Many things has been done on the name of God besides war, just look at our country, the dress code, the conservativeness, segregation of sexes in concert, and in Indonesia, where churches threaten to be blown off every Christmas, is it something that God really wanted us to do? Or is it just something in the so called "law of God" and misinterpretation of people who is stubborn and selfish?
Another evidence is the Islamic sex laws in Middle East, which is extremely sexism and against woman rights. Woman are treated like slave, objects of desire and has no right to speak up or whatsoever, even though they had been terribly abused and their husbands committing adultary freely outside, as these are considered the right of men and they will not be severely punished. Again, the reason they gave is "religion said so".
We nowadays are modernized people, capable of coming out with new ideas, capable of deciding the right and wrong, and if we continue to be blinded by restriction is religions, we will never progress and come out of the shell. I believe we can have faith in God, and at the same time be flexible, doing what we think is morally correct, that is when God is smiling on us, and not fearing to disobey religious rules which we think is unnecessary with fear of causing us to go to hell.
Rationality always prevail!!
(It might sound offensive to some but I am just speaking up, no offense)
If you are a plant lover, going to Korea is like going to heaven, as colorful sakura leaves, maple leaves tree can be seen anywhere there, and of course Korea is also well known for its purple crystal, which I have visited the factory, amazingly well processed, shiny, and elegant on any woman.
This is Everland, the seventh largest theme park in the world, owned by the boss of Samsung company. As you can see, the park is already filled with Christmas decorations everywhere, as Christmas is coming soon. Some great rides in the theme park include Safari ride, the border-less cable car, ghost shooting mansion(which you can obtain your score at the end of the ride), totally wet Amazon boat ride and some of the greatest roller coasters in the world.
In the Safari ride, the greatest attraction is these two animals, called "Liger", only available in Korea. As tigers and lions tend to stay together in the safari, they produce off springs which have the characteristics of both species. Unfortunately their DNA cause them to be infertile, therefore limit their numbers.
Another attraction is the huge but cute Korean bears, which are trained to perform various stunts, like fetching food to eat, dance, and imitate the pose of the Buddha, as shown in the photo beside.
This is the border-less cable car i mentioned earlier, riders are only protected by a removable thin safety pole on our waist for safety, which turns a normal cable car ride to a thrilling ride. However, there are protective nets beneath the cable cars to prevent accidents.
This photo beside might be familiar to those who watched to Korean drama "qing ding da fan dian", which is shot in this Walker Hill Hotel, which also have a big casino. This is shot outside the casino, which only allows entrance to foreigners, not locals, and even at the age of 20, I am granted entrance and permitted to gamble.
Remember the Korean box office movie Taegukgi released 2 years ago? Its a real story about siblings lost in a war, one representing North Korea army and one is the commander of South Korean army, fighting against each other. This statue is specially made for the story, located in the Seoul War Museum, which also paraded jets, tanks, submarines and weapons used in wars between North and South Korea.
This is Cheong Gye stream, which geographically divides Seoul, now a famous spot for evening walk in the big city, which long ago the stream water is used by Koreans for drinking, bathing, and clothes washing purpose.
If the United States of America had a white house, South Korea had a "green house" itself, named because of its green roof. It is the place where Korean president stays, the place where major international conference take place, and the place most strictly guarded by military in Korea.
This rock is formed naturally from a volcano eruption. Due to its look resembling male penis, it is believed that if you touch its nose you will get a baby boy, if you want a baby girl, touch the chin. For those who do not want any kids, touch the hands and it will bring wealth, hmm… guess which part I have touched?
This photo is taken inside Korean National Museum. Its a scene where Korean kids celebrate their one year old birthday. The museum itself have ancient paintings, sculptures and lots of articles on the history of Korea.
This building can be seen in every Korean dollar notes, as it is the building representing the national pride of Korea. Beneath the pile of trees beside the building is the "Veins of Dragon" of Korea, as a metal dragon is buried underneath it. The previous president took the dragon out and shift it to the museum, which cause earthquakes, crash of buildings, economic downturn and lots more disasters in Korea, prompting the next president to rebury back the dragon, as this is the place with best Feng Shui in the country.
And for those who watched "Jewel in the Palace" or " Da Chang Jin", you will know that this is the kind of house that ancient Korean people stays in. Windows are particularly low in these houses as most Koreans sleep on the floor.
So thats the end of the tour, I do get to watch a live concert featuring many famous Korean singers while shopping around the are of XinChun. Hope I will get a chance to visit more exciting places in the future.
This country is maybe one of the coldest country I have ever been in my life. With day time temperature at 5 to 6 degrees Celsius and might go down to maximum -1 Celsius at night, thick winter clothes and gloves are a must.
Those who watched the famous Korean drama winter sonata might recognize the scene in the photo. Besides my parents there, a famous couple of Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo had a romantic scene here. This is taken from a secluded island in Korea called Nam-I Island, who is virtually unknown before the drama, which has slowly involved into a hot tourist spot. 5 minutes of ship ride is needed to reach the destination, now a favorite place for couples to take their wedding photo, and of course, ideal spot for dating.
This is not hollywood, which has lots of hand prints of stars on the floor. This is the Myundong in Incheon, and the hand prints belong to the lead actor and actress of Winter Sonata. Its the place where they date, the lead actor had accident, and also a famous shopping street in Korea.
This is peak of Mount Sorak, what the Korean call "devil’s peak", for its steep route upwards, amazing scene when its completely covered by snow during winter, visitors who tried to hike up during winter will take a stumble every one or two steps because of the slippery floor made of rock due to heavy snowing. Yet its a place where Koreans like to hike up to have family picnic, and a favorite spot for older woman to sing and dance.
To get up to Mount Sorak’s hiking trail, we need to ride a 15 minutes cable car, which provides breathtaking view like in the photo beside, it is a dangerous place for kids to visit though, as the cliff of the mountain are all unfenced, one slip by anyone and you might just end up losing your precious life.
This is the tallest Buddha in Korea, located just outside Shin Heong temple, to get to the temple, you need to get pass a bridge called "bridge to heaven" and return with a different bridge, and every visitors are required to take a sip at the water taken from the stream beside, known as "holy water", which is naturally sweet in taste…The whole Buddha is made out of valuable green bronze, and inside its body is a storeroom filled with holy books.
As you can see from the photo, there are snows in the hills behind, this is Vivaldi Park, one of the biggest skiing park in Asia. Starting from December, the park will be completely covered by snow, a mixture of artificial and natural snow, and tourists will storm in for skiing and snowboarding. Just too bad I miss the skiing season for half a month, sob…
I will be back with part 3 for more interesting places in Korea, stay tune!! And have a nice day everyone
So I am back, from the country that brought us so many amazing dramas, thats right, its Korea, and I am ready to share my experiences from the vacation. So fasten your seat belt, sit tight, and follow me on the journey to this land of mystery.
I will make it a 3 part blog, in this first part I will talk about food, culture, lifestyle and fashion of Korea. Then in the next 2 parts I will introduce the tourist attractions there.
Something I find special about the lifestyle there is that Koreans sleep on the floor more than on the bed, even in four or five star hotels, some do not provide beds, just mattress to spread on the floor, a pillow filled with rice shells, and a blanket. During winter, the floor will be connected to heating system to bring warmth.
When people ask me about what is the greatest ever thing Koreans ever come out with, I will answer without doubt, plastic surgery. Nowadays not only movie stars, huge number of girls in Korean spend their first few months of salary going for artificial beauty, regardless of the pain suffered, and through my observation, almost all young lasses walking on the streets are perfect looking… Apart from that, I would say that Seoul is an emerging fashion city, everyone walking on the streets are dressed in latest fashion designs, even winter clothes, all of them are very uniquely designed, simply amazing!!
If you look at the photo beside very closely, you will find that all the cutlery are made out of metal, especially the chopstick, which makes it very slippery and difficult to be used. This noodle above is called "wu long mee", resemble the Japanese ramen, and its served together with the yellow radish and "kimchi", red in colour, sour tasting, containing 20 nutrients, and is a must have in every Korean meal.
This thing beside is called "tie ban shao", means burning food on a metal cooker. Ingredients include special sauce, sweet potato, cabbage, Korean "nian gao", meat and also rice, which is mixed later to stir together. The cooked meat can also be wrapped by raw vege to eat together with chili sauce. Notice the empty plastic cups on the table, Koreans usually serve plain water on meals, no soft drinks, coffee or tea, to lower the consumption of sugar.
Next up, this is called vegetarian steamboat. Korea is a very health conscious country, especially on their food, they eat vege more than meats, which free them from deadly diseases such as SARS and bird flu, the best thing is they do not use pesticide on their vege. The bowl of rice beside it is the famous "stone rice", called that because of its bowl is make of stone, red hot all the time and the rice need to be stirred continuously to prevent it from being overcooked.
This is called barbecue meat, in a unique Korean way. A big piece of meat is placed on the heating tray, turning it over all the time, cutting to smaller pieces in the process, an ideal meal for winter. Its served with white rice, which is completely round in shape, different from the shape of Malaysian white rice.
This is my little brother, beside him is one of the famous food of Korea, ginseng chicken soup, served with mee sua. The chicken is stuffed with sticky rice balls and ginseng, and its added with a small cup of ginseng wine, tasty and healthy as well. Korean is very famous for its ginseng, can be considered best in the world, as it is the warm type compared to the hot type from China and cold type from America.
I did visit the biggest fish market in Korea, besides fish, they have giant crabs sold here, and even the squids are gigantic, which they dried the squids, ferment it and its a very popular food among locals and foreigners, can be barbecued or added into soup.
OK thats all for today, will write more soon, before I go, big congratulations to Nicol Ann David, the recent double world champion, we penangites are really proud of you, keep it up!!
Pressure…
Its a light word,
but a heavy burden on the shoulder,
the more you take, the more it hurts,
pushing you down more and more,
just like the weight of the world,
make your heart beat faster,
make your mind work harder,
stretching every part of your body muscle,
tension in every breath of air you take in,
till you feel hard to breath,
till you feel you are squeezed,
so tight…
and till finally…
you collapse,
as you finally lose you grip,
and everything you held on for so long,
finally crumble on you…
It may appear be lighter than a feather,
but is actually heavier than a stormy weather,
its like a cruel painter,
painting wrinkles on our face,
pouring white paints on our hair,
drawing depression on our expression,
coloring our face with tears
such a negative makeover…
but when you got rid of the pressure,
its like getting a monkey off your back,
and even the smiles come back,
and the breath of tension,
is replaced by the breath of relieve.
Pressure…
it’s such a cold blooded illusion,
playing with our minds,
giving us negative signs,
its such a heartless thief,
stealing our happiness,
taking away our smiles,
its such a cruel murderer,
forcing countless people on the road,
putting their lives to an ending note.
Pressure my friend,
where do you come from?
who is the one who brought you to this world?
My mom? My dad? My teacher? The school exam?
or is it…
just myself?
Well, no matter how bad you are,
I just want to whisper a word of appreciation,
for coming to my live,
no matter how much people hate you,
I just want to say thank you,
for being the constant firepower behind me,
pushing me, forcing me,
giving me the will to fight,
and through all the sufferings,
the only route to survive…
When you get into a person’s mind,
it gets him to lose his mind,
so effortlessly,
in a matter of days,
even the dearest person in this world,
can change to a pure devil,
you bring insanity,
just like a spirit possessing someone,
grabbing his soul,
making him says words they don’t even know,
and you stirs a war that human will never win,
that is a war to still be yourself,
to stay calm and composed,
even under tremendous pressure…
(Salute)
